Abstract: This coverage includes arcs, polygons, and polygon labels that describe the generalized geologic age and type of surface outcrops of bedrock of the Far East (China, Japan, Mongolia, North and South Korea, and Taiwan; and parts of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam). It also includes shorelines and inland water bodies.

Purpose: To delineate geologic contacts and thematically depict generalized geologic age of outcrops in Open File Report 97-470F Maps Showing Geology, Geologic Provinces and Oil and Gas Fields of the Asia Pacific Region; Plate 1: The Far East, which is being compiled as a reference for the U.S. Geological Survey's World Energy Project assessment of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and gas resouces of the world.
